GodBo welcomes proposal for strengthening the position of idea-driven housing actors in Sweden
– creates opportunities for new collaborations and solutions.
The report “Lower the threshold for better housing” was presented on March 30, 2022 by Karolina Skog (MP), former Minister of the Environment and Special Investigator at the Ministry of Finance. The report is a result of the state investigation “Social sustainable housing”.
One of the proposals in the report is that the concept of idea-driven housing actor should be established in law in order to improve the conditions for idea-driven housing actors and to make the sector’s actors visible. This creates increased incentives for the general public to understand its conditions and opportunities to contribute to the supply of housing in different markets and to a sensitivity to any need to facilitate their work. During the course of the investigation, Karolina Skog has signaled that innovative players are needed who come up with new solutions to solve problems as a complement to the established major players in the rental market.
According to Lena Eriksson Åshuvud, GodBo welcomes a development where the legislator strengthens the position for housing companies with other driving forces than the economic ones. Lena also believes in positive impact from the fact that the state is showing interest in organizations that see new solutions to challenges in the housing supply in Sweden. It is a platform created that GodBo will be able to benefit from. The legislator clarifies to the public and to the industry, through a recognition that solution-oriented activities are important for the development of innovation in the housing supply sector, which for many years has been characterized by large-scale operations from the municipal sector and a lack of willingness to take responsibility from the private sector. This will create opportunities for new collaborations.
GodBo wants to be seen as one of the idea-driven housing actors, as they work long-term to create housing that is inclusive, safe and sustainable by offering residents the opportunity for co-ownership in their home. GodBo contributes to spreading the value of the property to the residents to the extent they can and want to. Instead of accumulating value for a few actors who are far from the residents in several respects, GodBo offers the opportunity to benefit from a potential increase in value, which increases the incentive for the residents to create a better housing environment. In this way, safer societies will be created in the long term, also for those who cannot afford to buy their entire home.
